Understanding and PreDiction of Rainfall Associated with landFalling Tropical cyclones(UPDRAFT) project is a WMO/WWRP Research and Development Project (RDP) . UPDRAFT was proposed by the Key Laboratory of Mesoscale Severe Weather(LMSWE), and launched in November 2014. Landfalling TCs can bring strong wind, heavy rainfall, storm surge and even tornadoes to the coastal areas. Among these high-impact weather events, heavy rainfall can be disastrous due to its widespread and long-lasting characteristics. UPDRAFT aims to advance the understanding and prediction of rainfall associated with landfalling TCs focusing on multi-scale dynamical and physical processes that govern rainfall intensity and rainfall distribution in landfalling TCs.
